Delphi Advanced

Delphi has been around since February 1995 and is a widely used development IDE with the base language of Object Pascal. Today, 27 years later, version Delphi 11 Altexandria is the latest version. The IDE and language integrated with the debugger make it very easy to develop large-scaled robust desktop applications, as well as applications for mobile devices. This course has focused on desktop application development for Windows and Mac OSX but also touch base on creating mobile apps.

Goal and benefits

This two-day course will take you in depths of the Delphi/Pascal programming language using both the traditional VCL framework and the added framework Firemonkey. By utilizing Firemonkey you will learn how to program and build an application that will compile for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. As well as get a deeper knowledge of the Pascal language and its capabilities.

• Deep dive introducing new components and functions to optimize your Delphi development

• Add target platforms such as Mac OSX, Android and iOS
• Introduction to some more advanced data structures like generics.

The major objective to the course is to give you enough knowledge and hands-on experience to be able to build object-oriented programs with some advanced features and get the applications running on desktops and mobile using the same codebase.

Audience/Participants

This training is aimed at programmers who want to get a thorough and sound introduction to some advanced areas of Delphi and programming in Delphi. The training will be held in English and so is the training material.

Previous knowledge

The course requires at least some experience in Delphi. You must be able to build an object-oriented application. Please see the course “Delphi Basic”

Practical Exercises

Throughout the course, there will be a mix of theoretical teaching (projector and whiteboard) and practical exercises, with as much hands-on as possible.

Trainer

The course is created and held by Jens Fudge. Jens has more than 25 years of experience with Delphi and arranging the training. Due to his deep knowledge within Delphi, he has been promoted to be Delphi MVP by Embarcadero. Jens is on the board of the Danish Delphi users group Dapug, and in charge of getting speakers to the bi-annually Workshop. The training is held in English and the training material is in English.

Summary

When the course is finished you will have a very good understanding of how to use Delphi to build multithreaded applications and talking to multiple databases through a Datasnap server. The client in this case can run on Windows, Mac OSX, iOS or Android. Note: This is not a course in mobile development, though a few things will be shown.

Q&A about our Online Courses due to COVID-19

Why doesn´t Alfasoft offer Delphi classroom training at the moment?
Due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we have decided to convert some of our Delphi courses into online courses.

Do I need any prior knowledge to participate? Do I receive any documentation or continued support after the course?
Before the course starts, you will receive training material via email in PDF format. The documentation describes each step through the course and is very useful to have also after the training. After the online training, you will have the opportunity to ask questions to Alfasoft and the teacher Jens Fudge, up to one month after the training to receive continued support with your Delphi development.

Is it the same content on the online course and the scheduled physical course?
The course content is the same, with a course leader leading and guiding you during the day, and you will learn the same thing on both versions of the course. The only difference is that the online course structure is adapted for a digital course experience. The adaption means that, for example, all exercises have a format optimized for doing online.

Can I ask questions to the course leader and other participants during the online course?
You can ask questions to the course leader before, during, and after the course. You also have the opportunity to interact with other participants during the session.

What equipment is required of me to be able to participate in the distance course?
All that is required is that you have access to a computer, mobile, or tablet with a good internet connection and headphones. It is also desirable that you can sit undisturbed. You will need to have a preinstalled Delphi license installed on your local machine (can be an evaluation license). You do not need to preinstall any other programs; instead, you connect to the video platform Zoom – which is the software that will be used – via a link that we send to you by email before the course starts.

Is there any difference in price for attending a distance course compared to an onsite course?
For our online courses, we offer a reduction of the course fee with 20% compared to a scheduled classroom class. List price is 9.950 SEK/NOK / 1.000 Euros.
